Brit Pop Club Nights/Flyer Designs

Searching around the net I managed to find some ideas for designing my Brit Pop Flyer. I found a traditional British Pop flyer which has the three main colours, Blue, Red & White. It also has the typical Guitarist and is pretty simple within the design. What I mean by this is, It's easy to read and not to messy, a pretty clean cut flyer with some boxes rotated and all different text. It's very easy to read on the eyes and the colours stand out. Also they have a typical Libertines style headline, the scruffy letter cut out from a newspaper. It has other Information, like a website where I presume you can research the venue, get directions and find out more about the night. And lastly the design is not to complicated and it's not one of those 'dull' flyers you would throw away because you could use it as a poster and its kind of a collectable.

Second Flyer I found was slightly similar but it was an 'American' Brit pop night. Again a pretty simple design a stencil style print with a typical youth on the front giving it some 'attitude'. Only one British colour which is the red strip across the front of the poster. But you wouldn't really expect an american flyer to have British colours. Made by the same people I assume from the website and the design. Again very easy to read, not to over complicated and can be used as a collectable poster. Advertising 'cheap drinks' which will again bring in more people and more perks if you come early.

Lastly I found a very old 'Mod' Style flyer, that has lots of pictures and 'typically british' themes. It seems to be all cut out manually with scissors and glue then scanned in to a computer.. Only really has one box of text giving you information about the night, no website or other information which is ok if the night is well known. All the images on the flyer are 'british' the 'lambretta' scooter, red london bus, tradition english women and the mod symbol with the british colours. This could also be used as a collectable poster which you can keep. But overall I think the first one is the best poster to attract the 'Brit Pop' scene and is the most attractive poster because they have the colours and has the most simplicity. I think my Flyer will be a mix between the first two as I feel they suit my Genre and target audience the best.

Brit Pop

Brit Pop a Sub-genre of Alternative Rock that originates from the UK.
Brit Pop emerged from the British independent music scene, this happened around the early 90s and was influenced by the 60s and 70s Pop. The first bands thats formed from this genre were Suede & Blur, referencing British guitar music of the past and vocals about British topics and concerns. More bands soon joined them like Oasis, Pulp, Supergrass, Elastica and sleeper. Brit pop groups brought British alternative rock into the mainstream and formed the backbone of a larger British culture called 'Cool Britannia'. Typical Instruments - Lead guitar, rhythm, bass, drums, vocals and keyboard.

Brit Pop is still a well covered genre followed by many sub-genres, it's still a well live and ongoing genre, still having high coverage from newspapers, magazines, forums for example a Pulp, Arctic Monkeys, The Cribs, The libertines and lots more.. This Genre will never die because the coverage is too large. Festivals are constantly craving Brit pop bands especially at Glastonbury and Reading as the Brit Pop movement helped publicize these Festivals up and rising so they will always be grateful and wanting Brit Pop bands, especially the big names, Like The Beetles, Oasis, The Cribs and lots more. They also have websites where you can keep updated with the band and upcoming tour dates, buying merchandise, view pictures etc... Nearly every Brit Pop band has a facebook and Myspace page where you can sign up to latest news and events, it also allows you first access to new releases of singles and albums maybe with a special edition Digital Pack... Myspace covers the Band more because you are able to listen to the songs for free with the availability to buy them or add them to a playlist, therefore giving you access to free music. Which normally makes listeners more Incline to buy the album from a shop.

What you find with Brit Pop bands they are mainly 'Traditionally British' or 'British Orientated' for example 'The Libertines' when they are interviewed there is normally something british about the atmosphere or the clothing they are wearing. Especially In there music videos they are wearing the 'British Army' Coat, again this is showing there British Mise - En - Scene. Also Oasis have the british themed clothing and Guitars. And even in their videos they have the Rolls Royce, Black cabs including the big style houses, which again is typically Brit Pop.

What Made Grand Theft Auto IV So Successful

Grand Theft Auto IV - Or 'GTA' as we know it.. Created and Published by Rockstar, Rocksar Toronto & Rockstar North. What made it so successful? Lets start with the Production.... Developers started working on 'IV' just after the release of San Andreas. It took three and a half years, 1000 people including 150 games developers to complete 'IV'. Rockstar created their own game engine 'Rage' allowing them to create their own characters from scratch. They also used this game engine to create Rockstars 'Table Tennis'. 'IV' is the most realistic for example, the radio stations with music from Kanye West as well as Comedy shows from Ricky Garvais and Katt Williams. This portrays a sense of realism and is a good example of media convergence. You also builds a relationship with the character. E.g, He does what you do. Rockstar Paid $5000 to license every track on the radio as well as the comedy and Tv Shows. Microsoft also paid Rockstar $50 million to have exclusive DLC. (Downloadable content) And lastly they pulled the biggest 'technological convergence' Online Gaming, allowing you to continue your road to destruction online with people around the world, doing missions together and allowing you to kill other online players.

Rockstar hit gold with all of there different types of techniques for marketing 'GTA'. For example they used 'Viral Marketing' They spread wanted posters with 'Nico Bellic' (main character) across the city and they put big posters and art work up on buildings and walls. Everyone was spreading the word of 'Grand Theft Auto'. Also they used 'Synergy' for example, releasing the first trailer with a magazine covered with information about 'GTA IV' not forgetting Press Interviews and Tv Interviews. They also created fake websites for the LCPD and for the radio stations, they also offered a chance for the public to talk about anything record it and send it in for a chance to be on the games radio. This is another excellent example of 'Viral Marketing'.

Xbox Kinect - Distribution & Exchange

Xbox Kinect was announced on June 1st 2009, by Microsoft's Director Alex Kipmon who incubated the project. They called it 'Project Natal' a code name for Kinect after a Brazilian city.
Microsoft had a budget of $500 million and they were not afraid to use it. They advertised on Youtube homepage, Disney channel, Nickelodeon.. During Tv Programme's 'Dancing with the Stars' and 'Glee'. As well as in Magazines such as Instyle and People. Time Square held Kinect high with large amounts of Billboards. Also being very cheeky and using stars such as 'Oprah Winfrey' giving away Kinect consoles and controllers to the audience as well as 'Ellen' from her own show showing it off in front of the audience and 'Jimmy Fallon' Giving consoles and controllers away to the audeince. And lastly 'GAME' becoming the official launch partner and promoter.

Ashley Tisdale - US actress mainly known for her appearances in Disney films and programmes held a pre - launch party for Kinect and had the support of international football sensation David Beckham. And She also had a video chat with Nick Cannon Over Kinect.

Kinect was released with the New Xbox 360 (Media Convergence) A very clever idea bringing the console out with the Kinect therefore having to buy the new console to play Kinect.... BUT, Microsoft announced that Kinect would be available on all 360 consoles therefore only having to buy 'Kinect' on it's own. Saving customers more money and a more likelihood of buying it as it's more affordable.

2.5 million Kinect sensors have been sold as of November 29th 2010 and 1 million of these were sold in 10 days after the North American Launch. Within 1 month Kinect became the top selling accessory of the year! They aimed Xbox Kinect at everyone not a specific audience, therefore not age discriminating people. This intrigued more customers and more interest. Many stores stayed open after midnight so you could buy the Kinect. Game was the main store to buy it from as it was the official sponsor and launch partner.
